Water Tank Holds Large Number of Bacteria

In many of the rural areas, the rainwater is stored in a tank as their main source of water supply. It is the responsibility of the owner of the water tank to make sure the tank is clean. Cleaning the water tank should be done in every 3 years at least. This ensures the safety of water suitable for family year after year.

Water tanks can hold large number of bacteria, algae, insects, pollutants, animals, reptiles or decaying vegetation. Storage tanks of cold water can provide ideal procreation ground for many types of bacteria such as Legionella. Actually these bacteria’s are responsible for Legionnaire's disease. In general way, water tanks are located above the boiler house or in a loft, which are usually the two warmest places in a building this can lead to the construction of water inside the tank warms up significantly. In addition, deposits, oxidation and other impurities, providing nutrients for bacteria, added to the above, and above the storage tanks of water that can create almost the type of conditions for bacteria to breed.

BS6700 recommends a free chlorine concentration of 50 ppm for one hour. After an hour, less than 30 ppm should be left to indicate a successful disinfection, if they are below the levels then you must be repeated.
